Learning Support

We are committed to an inclusive and engaging learning environment that promotes a culture of bravery and success.

Inclusive education is a human right which is supported by law. All students, regardless of their ability, or their social, cultural, community and family background, must have access to fully participate in learning experiences on an equitable basis with their peers.

All children are learners and all children are unique.

We are determined that every student at Springbank Secondary College will reach their full potential. They will receive the adjustments and support required to ensure that they are active participants in a high-quality education. We do this by using the universal design for learning where students access learning at their ability level and engage in topics that interest or motivate them.

We monitor student progress and academic achievement, and ensure that students are provided with opportunities to engage with and stretch their learning.

Collaboration with students, families and the community

We work collaboratively with students, families and their support community so that all relevant expertise and perspectives are heard and considered. We ensure that all students can access and participate in all school activities, events and learning.

Committed and skilled staff

Our school leaders and staff are knowledgeable and empathetic professionals. We design engaging classroom environments that welcome a diverse range of learners and promote a culture of shared values. As much as possible, teachers offer a tailored, age-appropriate learning program for each student. Staff meet regularly to co-design curriculum and share knowledge about pedagogical approaches and assessment.

Springbank Secondary College supports student barriers to learning with intervention and support that is provided in negotiation with students, parents and teachers. Interventions range from in class differentiation and modification, whole year level fluid intervention, small group targeted intervention and 1:1 support for literacy, numeracy and social and emotional learning needs.

Literacy and Numeracy Support

Literacy and Numeracy testing occurs in years 7-10 through a range of tools including PAT, NAPLAN and Dibels assessments. The data obtained from these tools is used to identify individual student strengths and areas for development to enable staff to target teaching and learning to student developmental levels.

One Child One Plan

Students eligible for One Plan receive specific support as negotiated with parents, teachers and students. In-class support is provided across the curriculum depending on student needs.

English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD)

Students eligible for EALD support receive in class support as determined by their literacy levels. Staff are trained to support these students within mainstream classes.
